[ He answers her with a non-committal dubious hum before laughing. Life has interesting surprises.

But, onward to snacks- ]

It'll be my treat! It's the perfect weather for it after all, and you're a friend! [ So no fuss necessary. ] Anyway, I wanted to surprise Cilan before the festival was over, and I was thinking...would a pokémon battle while he's pretending to be a spirit would be fun?

[ Ah, he's already getting embarrassed, rubbing at his neck. ] But I don't know if that's enough when my costume's just a waiter's outfit, and I'm not good at acting like Cilan!

[She looks at him and then a bright smile breaks out on her face.]

You are asking me to help you stage a battle with Cilan-san during the rest of this festival?! I would love that! When do you wish to do this?

[ He doesn't relax entirely with her positive response, but he does by plenty despite that, a small breath releasing to hear that it wasn't as stupid as he thought it might sound outside his head. Gengar splashes at her shadows like water, more along with Sonia's own sudden eagerness than Red's mood. ]

On the last night! That gives me time to make plans today. I want to make it...special, something that'll he remember! It's short notice, but [ his gaze moves to the ground, lips pinching and his head nodding ] if I can make it as flashy as possible like the masquerade, and find a good spot... maybe out here-- [ Here, gaze now moving out to the rest of the open space ] there has to be a way I can put something together to make him happy.

[ His fingers flex slowly, remembering the dancing, the stumbling and the good mood all around him and inside his own chest. Feeling suddenly self-conscious of himself and how unrestrained he had been with his emotions that night, Red straightens, only a small, soft warmth emanating from him as he smiles cheerily to Sonia. ]

I like to do something nice for Cilan once in a while. And I figured you might know how to make put on a good show! [ Ah- ] Maybe you can be a part of it too!

[ How? Well, that's why they're talking about it now! ]

Hm, if you wish to make me a part of it, then why don't I issue the challenge on your behalf? We can make a great production out of the entire thing, saying that the ghostly fiend has replaced our dear friend. I am sure that you and Gengar would make a fearsome team against him and Pansage-san. At least for the evening.

[ Issuing a challenge? His thoughts pull him upward, mouth slightly parted as he tries to imagine the...play being put in place here. Which was the whole idea, but it's still remarkably beyond anything he's ever tried to do.

But it's only for a moment, before he returns to Sonia again. ]

You said you were a fairy princess or something like that, didn't you? [ Hm... ] What kind of person could Cilan be to you? Not just a friend-- should he have some kind of a special title too?

Like...your knight! Or your cook!

Yes, of course. I am the princess of all the fairies in my garb. But, Red-san, Cilan-san is my champion, someone more trusted than just a knight. He is companion, warrior and beloved confidante.

Oh? [ ...There's a role like that? Well, Sonia's getting really into this apparently by picking that so easily, so- ] Alright! Champion it is! That fits perfect!

[ In a sense, though he's reminded of the time that Cilan had spoken about the movie he had starred in, and hadn't he been some type of wizard? It pulls a funny smile on his face, while otherwise, he considers what they've got so far.

... which the two of them being rather a perfect match, and he, well-- a princess announcing a waiter persona sounds so... not right.

[ And then a thought comes ever so suddenly, Red letting it spring out of his mouth as it forms: ]

Hey! Since he's your champion, why don't you challenge the spirit? The princess fighting for the one she cares about sounds more exciting than whatever I could be!

[Sonia cocks her head to the side in thought as she digests what he's said.]

It's a sound plan except for one flaw, Red-san. I have no Pokémon with which to challenge him to a duel. And the Dark Devas might be formidable, but they are not truly mine to order into battle.

[ He shakes his head, her point not deflating him in the slightest. ]

I'll give you one of mine to battle! I'll still be around to keep an eye on what's going on, but my pokémon are as good of fighters as Cilan's, and I know what pokémon he has and what to look out for.

And if it's you giving the challenge, I know he'll battle to match your level, so you won't have to worry about being at a disadvantage from not being a trainer. You might even have fun!

[ That would be a good thing! But oh, Gengar's making noises at their back, little stumpy arms half out on the hand with her body now sunk below, watching them with interest. She heard 'battle', she likes that word!! ]

I couldn't possibly take one of your companions, even for a night. While I don't doubt their prowess in battle, they wouldn't listen to me the same way the do you.

Although, I must admit that the thought of doing this would be a great deal of fun.

[Sonia turns her attention to the ghost Pokémon and blinks.]

Your Gengar seems to want something, Red-san.

[ He's already shifting to face Gengar more while still keeping turned to Sonia, batting a hand at the pokémon and chuckling, the ghost/poison type reaching out a claw to meet it. It might even look cute. ]

Oh, she just loves battling. [ Don't mind her. ] Anyway, Sonia, my pokémon will listen to you if I tell them to. All I'd need to decide is what moves they should stick to, and tell them to you. Hmm, if it was Gengar...

[ Ah, up come Gengar's claws to make fists!!! Look at these non-existent muscles!! ] ...Shadow Ball's an easy one to remember. [ Off to the side in her self-contained ring, Gengar mini-throws a mini-black shadow. ] There's Night Shade too... [ Distorted waves form with the wiggling of claws, showing--is that a back of blonde hair in that small, small, mirage? --But there's no time to see what frightening imagery it could've been... ] There should be one poison move too. Like...

[ Gengar 'throws' up, a purple blob falling into the shadow that extends to catch it. ] ...Sure, Sludge Bomb works. And then the fourth... the fourth should be something special! [ Ah ] But Gengar would be a great pick! She already likes you, and she knows how to put on a show, so even if you told her, 'attack with darkness!', she'd know exactly what to do!

[ Which she displays, throwing up her arms and encasing herself in a few seconds of darkness, an echoing hellbeast sound rising from nowhere and a miniature ~~Cilan~~ person-shaped figure appearing off to the side of this small display, flapping around their tiny arms in horror before falling backwards into nothing.

It dies with that, Gengar returning to normal with one claw innocently beneath her grin while her eyes flutter.

... ] Yeah. That.

[Sonia's attention turns to the Pokémon, eyes sparkling like the little spots all around her head as she leans closer to the ghost.]

Gengar-san, you would allow me to lead you into battle against Cilan-san and his team? I would be truly honored at such a momentous gesture!

[She claps her hands together with a loud sound as the air around her vibrates, until she notices that the shape in Gengar's last attack looked a little too familiar.]

Ah, but we mustn't hurt Cilan-san. That is the last thing I want.

[ Her body's shuddering with her suggestive snickering about what the first thing that she wants regarding the connoisseur, stopping with the pat of Red's hand on her head. ]

Gengar isn't going to hurt Cilan. [ Ehuhuhuhuhu!!! grows the laughter, and he taps her again, this time with a light fist, her cheeks puffing out in response, face changing to another tap to her tongue poking out, and then another--

there, she's matching Sonia's dreamy-eyed expression, fluttering now existing eyelashes and her claws embraced to the side. Good enough. ]

We can have a practice battle so you get a feel for it, but I'm sure Gengar will be happy to have a match against Cilan and his pokémon with you. [ His words are like he's deciding it, but the pokémon is nodding her head frantically in agreement anyway. ]

We won't know unless we give it a go! [ Unless she means Gengar being present, then- ] Gengar might spook him at first glance, but Cilan's an expert trainer. He won't be that easily give up a match!
